My Goals

Over the course of the past five years I have learned that goal setting is a powerful process for turning ideas and dreams into reality, for staying focused and motivated. I have thought long and hard about what I want from life and what I want to achieve – I began identifying and setting ambitious yet achievable goals. As I look back – I feel I have succeeded. And as I now stand on the brink of my new exciting career, it is time to lay down some new goals:


Short Term Goals (Nov 2015 – 3 months)

• Obtain provisional registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching
• Plan A: Secure a teaching position in a secondary school, in my preferred teaching methods – Science/Biology/Environmental Science/Visual Art/Creativity
• Plan B: Enrol in a Master of Education course to continue developing my knowledge, understanding and expertise in the field of education – with emphasis on curriculum design, interdisciplinary learning, teaching science and creativity; network with educational professionals and institutions; commence CRT work in secondary schools
• Continue developing my professional website
• Develop a LinkedIn Profile
• Engage in extracurricular projects – Science Talent Search (STAV)

Medium Term Goals (3 months – 3 years)

• Establish effective and efficient administrative routines and procedures, maintain an organised working environment, continue to develop all aspects of my teaching practice – particularly classroom management, incorporating ICT, assessment strategies and reporting
• Manage a safe, supportive and challenging classroom environment where I can successfully implement my educational philosophy
• Continue professional development in my chosen specialisations and areas of interest
• Seek mentoring, support and feedback, in order to refine and further develop my teaching practice
• Build positive relationships, communicate and collaborate with colleagues, teaching professionals, students parents and community
• Engage in extracurricular activities – continue my involvement with Science Talent Search, seek involvement in school outdoor programs, particularly in relation  to sustainability and snowsports
• Obtain full registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching

Long Term Goals (3 – 7 years)

• Plan A – Become a Highly Accomplished/Leading Teacher, with particular interest in science, interdisciplinary learning (STEAM), program development, curriculum design, planning, coordination, mentoring, whilst maintaining my drive and passion for teaching and education
• Plan B – explore employment opportunities and avenues for career in the tertiary education sector or in informal learning settings; in areas of education project/program development, coordination, evaluation, communication, that utilise managerial and administrative skills
• Become involved in planning (integrated) curricula learning programs, explore alternative ways of teaching and learning – integrating Art and Science, STEAM
• Continue professional development in areas of interest through engagement and networking with external organisations and involvement in science/sustainability/art programs and projects
• Continue a personal creative/art practice – establish an art studio in my home
• Enrol in post-graduate studies that align with my career objectives – Masters/PhD
• Maintain a work-life balance
